Bridgewater Hometown Heroes: Our History and Mission
Our Roots
The Bridgewater Hometown Heroes banner program was born from a simple desire to ensure that the service and sacrifice of local veterans are never forgotten. Inspired by similar tribute displays in Pennsylvania, local resident and veteran advocate Dave Moore launched the initiative in 2018 under the auspices of the Bridgewater Historical Commission. What began as a pilot project with just 11 banners quickly resonated with the community, growing to dozens of tributes that now line the streets of Bridgewater.
A Community Tribute
Since its inception, the program has served as a colorful, public gallery of honor. Each banner tells a story—featuring a veteran’s photograph, their branch of service, and the era in which they served. These banners, displayed proudly along major thoroughfares like Bedford and Cottage Streets, serve as a daily reminder to residents and visitors alike of the individuals who stepped forward to protect our freedoms.
The Labor of Honor
For years, the success of the program relied on the dedicated hands of Dave Moore and a small, passionate group of volunteers. From coordinating with families to the physical labor of installing and removing the heavy banners each season, the work was a labor of love. As the original founding members began to age, the program reached a turning point where new support was needed to ensure this legacy remained a permanent part of the Bridgewater landscape.
